6 for 60!
Many of our team know that Julia is a keen runner, but you may not know that it hasn’t always been the case. Julia came to running in 2020, starting with the couch to 5k as part of Overseal Running Club in the January. She didn’t get to finish the full course until 2 years later due to covid, but she continued running on her own during the lockdowns. A determined person!
Over the last 4 years, Julia has entered several challenges and has supported many charities along the way, including the RAF, Tommys, MS Society, Outfit Moray and the Alzheimer’s Association. Julia wanted to set herself a challenge and as she was approaching her 60th birthday, she thought she’d do something a little different, and enter 6 races for her 60th year! We couldn’t be prouder of Julia, as she has now completed the 6 races that she set out to achieve! She also raised money along the way, securing a whopping £460 for the Stroke Association.
Race no 1 was The Derby 10k
Race no 2 was The Cathedral to castle (Lichfield to Tamworth) 10 miler
Race no 3 was The Longhorn 10k Thoresby Park Nottingham.
Race no 4 was The Great North Run in Newcastle, half marathon (2nd year taking part, and booked on the next one too!)
Race no 5 was The Half Dram, a half marathon through the distilleries of Speyside in Scotland
Race no 6 was the Tissington Trail half in January 2025 .
Julia said her favourite run was probably the Half Dramathon, beautiful countryside and a brilliant goodie bag of 4 bottles of whisky, one from each distillery that she ran through! She added the Great North Run is a special race due to the support from the amazing people of Newcastle upon Tyne.
In January this year, Julia was presented with the runner of the year award from Overseal Running Club. We think that is very well deserved, and congratulate Julia on all her hard work. It hasn’t stopped though! Julia has already got 3 runs planned for the rest of 2025!
