Autumn fundraising totals
20 November 2023 | Your Fishers |
During October and November, we set out on 2 fundraising missions to raise money for both the MSA Trust and the YMCA
MSA Trust
There are 1,267 miles between each of the MSA hubs from which support is given. We decided to walk this distance, which also happens to be the same as the distance from London to Rome!
15 of us set out on the challenge using the World Walking App. On here, we could track where we were, and communicate with the team to keep motivated. We walked morning noon and night to complete the challenge and it was tough! We had set a 2 week target and came in just half a day over - not too bad!
The money raised will go a long way in supporting individuals and family members of those affected by this degenerative illness.
We still have lots of fundraising to be done, but the total raised for the MSA walk was £1,248! Well done team!
YMCA
Each year, the YMCA hold a sleepout for people to join in and experience what it is like to be homeless. In its 15th year, a team of 5 staff and 4 family members decided to take part. With the choice of covered areas at Pirelli stadium or the graveyard in the middle of town, there was no question that we were going to the stadium!
After a hot drink, lights out was 11pm and needless to say, it was a difficult nights sleep. With snorers, music, hard floors and temperatures of 3 degrees, it was hard to sleep and then we were woken at 5.30 am, as this is the time that homeless people will move on. We were lucky enough to be able to go home to our warm beds, but for many, sleeping rough is a continuous daily struggle. We managed to raise £745 for the YMCA to continue their wonderful work.
If you see anyone sleeping rough, you can report it online to Street Link who will send a local organisation, such as the YMCA, to help.
Our next fundraiser is the Christmas fair so check out the events page of Your Fishers for updates!
