Time to Talk at Fishers (supporting mental health awareness)
30 March 2020 | |
The charity Time to Change are running a Time to Talk Day today which we are proud to take part in.
Time to Change is a charity led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness which aims to break down the stigma of talking about our mental health.
Mental health problems affect one in four of us, yet too many people are made to feel isolated, ashamed and worthless because of this. Time to Talk Day encourages everyone to be more open about mental health – to talk, to listen, to change lives.
What we're getting up to today
Fishers Champions
We are introducing Fishers Time to Change Champions. A selection of employees have volunteered to be ready to listen, for those times you need to talk. If an employee feels they need someone to talk to in a quiet, private space, we're offering a time and safe place to do so.
The Employee Pledge
We have asked employees to make a pledge, something that they can do to improve their own mental health whilst at work. This pledge should then be attached to our pledge wall which will be located in the office, giving us a chance as a company to reflect on mental health, whilst raising awareness.
Do you wear a mask at work?
Another way we're raising awareness is by giving a mask to every employee. The mask demonstrates how people feel on the inside and the out. Each employee will write on the mask how they feel at work, and how they like to be perceived at work. The masks are then folded and put in a box, ready to review and evaluate.
This activity is to demonstrate that we all have insecurities at work, however confident or assured we may seem on the outside.
Elevenses
Taking a break away from your work area and stopping to socialise with colleagues is important for mental health in the workplace. Therefore, at 11 o clock we’ll be providing a selection of biscuits in the two break out areas and we've asked employees to stop what they're doing, pop the kettle up and have a little natter, it is elevenses after all!
In addition to these events on Time to Talk Day, Fishers want to support the health and wellbeing of all of their employees and as such we are now introducing:
Free Fresh Fruit every week- Starting on Thursday we will have fresh fruit around the office, every week!
Walking Meetings- If our employees would rather go for a walk and chat through an issue with a colleague rather than sit in a meeting room for a formal meeting, we're now suggesting people go on walking meetings. Where appropriate, employees are now permitted to hold meetings outside whilst racking up some of their daily steps.
Fishers Socials - every quarter, we take part in out of the office activities, ranging from murder mystery nights to escape rooms. This quarter we're going to our local inflatable park to let off some steam and have fun!
