Job vacancy: Solicitor
Department: Probate, Wills, Tax and Trusts
Responsible to Director and the wider Fishers Solicitors team
Report to: Director (Probate, Wills, Tax and Trusts).
The Firm.
Fishers Solicitors has been providing legal services for 140 years. We provide legal services that cover most areas of law.
With a recent move to a new office on the outskirts of Ashby and increased business, we are looking for a qualified Solicitor to work with our Probate, Wills, Tax and Trusts team.
The Role:
To take an active role in the firm’s expanding Wills and Probate Department by managing a caseload of clients and assisting with the promotion, development and marketing of the department, in line with the firms’ business plan. To comply in all respects with the provision of the Office Manual and undertake such reasonable requests as may be made by the Head of Department or any other Director.
Main Responsibilities
Carry out own caseload from initial instruction through to completion.
- Handle a varied caseload of Wills, lasting powers of attorney, the setting up and administration of trusts, Court of Protection and the administration of estates (both with and without a Will), and variation of Wills;
- Ensure that all client’s work is progressed in a timely manner and that the client is kept informed throughout, delivering exceptional customer service;
- Comply with all file and case management quality standards in accordance with the Law Society requirements;
- Assist the firm with new and existing business development;
- Time record for all client matters on the case management system;
- Maintain confidentiality of all client documentation and information at all times;
- Assist the Head of Department with any other relevant duties as and when required;
- Work closely with the Head of Department to promote the department as a whole;
- Build upon the firm’s reputation to attract key clients;
- Networking with other professionals and contacts, both individually and as part of a team;
- Undertake any relevant training as and when required;
- To provide advice and guidance to secretary/s where required;
- To provide advice and guidance to junior team members. Where required when required;
- To comply with the terms of the Office Manual and any other reasonable request that may be made by the Head of Department or another Partner.
Skills, Qualifications and experience:
- Ideally 4+ years PQE, with experience of working within a Wills, Taxes, Trusts & Probate department or an Experienced Qualified Solicitor;
- Ability to handle own varied caseload of Wills and probate matters on own initiative and without supervision;
- Confident in handling cases from initial instruction through to completion;
- Target driven;
- Exceptional client care skills;
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise;
- High level of attention to detail;
- Can do attitude;
- Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently;
- Sound communication skills (both verbal and written);
- Experience of working with Case Management systems
The working hours are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
Covid-19.
The majority of the firm is working remotely at this time and the risk is minimal. The longer term plan is to continue with a remote working arrangement.

Job vacancy: Legal Secretary x2
Fishers Solicitors has been providing legal services for around 140 years. We provide legal services that cover most areas’ of law.
With a recent move to a new office on the out skirts of Ashby and increased business, we are looking for 2 legal secretaries to work with our Probate, Wills, Tax and Trusts team.
The Role:
The legal secretary is to provide direct support to the fee earner that will enable the fee earner to operate at optimum efficiency. This will include, but will not be limited to the main responsibilities given below. The legal secretary is expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative.
Main Responsibilities
- To comply with all case management quality standards as laid down in the office manual and in accordance with Law Society requirements;
- To prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing and word processing;
- To administer filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the Office Manual;
- To record all client and matter details on the PMS and set up new files, and ensure that the client/matter details are kept up to date;
- To use the PMS where appropriate for document production. To set up new files.
To send e-mails and e-mail documents when appropriate, and to check emails for the appointed principle; - To prepare mail and enclosures for dispatch and to be responsible for ensuring that all outgoing post is correctly addressed and delivered to reception in time for dispatch;
- To arrange for all copying to be done;
- To make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain an up-to-date diary for their principal;
- To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care;
- To take and record accurately any messages and pass them to the appropriate person without any necessary delay;
- To record accurately and legibly any attendance details following discussions with the client and ensure that they are lodged on the client matter correspondence clip;
- To provide support to other secretaries as required;
- To provide guidance to junior and temporary secretaries when required to do so;
- To undertake any specific training when required to do so, and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development;
- To ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information;
- To comply with the terms of the Office Manual and any other reasonable request that may be made by the Head of Department or another Partner.
Skills, Qualifications and experience:
- Must have secretarial experience in a similar environment;
- Must have good telephone manner;
- Must be able to work a team member and also be able to work on own initiative;
- Must have high level word processing and audio typing skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft ‘Word’, ‘Excel’ and ‘Outlook’.
- Ideally, RSA or Business Administration NVQ level 2 or 3, though not essential;
- Attention to detail;
Ideally, experience of Probate, Wills, Tax and Trusts, though not essential.
The office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with paid overtime.

Job vacancy: Dispute Resolution Solicitor
We are now recruiting for a Dispute Resolution Solicitor to be based at our offices in Ashby de la Zouch.
The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with a broad and varied commercial litigation caseload.
Skills and experience we are seeking in the ideal candidate:
Essential:
- Ideally 5+ years PQE with sound experience in dealing with commercial litigation matters (this is a guide and candidates with more or less experience may also be considered)
- Unrestricted practicing certificate
- Knowledge and experience of dealing with the following litigation matters:
- Partnership disputes
- Landlord and Tenant disputes
- Commercial disputes
- Inheritance (Provision for Family Dependents) Act
- TOLATA Claims
- Neighbour disputes
- Boundary disputes
- Company disputes
- Misappropriation of monies
- Contract disputes
- Nuisance disputes
- 1954 Tenancy Act claims
- Possession claims
- Professional Negligence claims
- Good working knowledge of CPR
- Confident in handling own case load

Desirable:
- Judicial review procedures and petitions to the government
