Charity abseil raises over £1,700!
8 October 2024 | Team Fishers |
At the weekend a team of people from Fishers Solicitors signed up to complete a sponsored abseil to raise money for one of our charities of the year, Love4Life.
On Sunday 6th October, a group of Fishers Solicitors troops travelled to the Millers Dale Viaduct in the Peak District to take part in the charity abseil. Fortunately, the weather was on our side and each one of the team managed to overcome their fears, facing a 90ft drop to the bottom of the viaduct. The day was a success and thoroughly enjoyed by all the team and their families.
Fishers Solicitors work alongside employee selected charities each year. This year, Fishers have chosen to support Love4Life:
'We specialise in supporting vulnerable girls to develop their self-esteem and form positive and empowering relationships by delivering Love4Life groups, one-to-ones and workshops in secondary schools and in the community.
All of our work embeds positive self-worth, body image and the handling of emotions in order to help a young person become more resilient.
We aim to support and develop young people’s understanding of themselves and empower them to break cycles of low achievement and poverty by tackling the underlying issues.'
And Tommy's:
'Tommy’s was founded in 1992 when two obstetricians at St Thomas’ Hospital in London - Dr Ian Fergusson and Dr Anthony Kenney - couldn't and wouldn't accept the lack of answers surrounding premature birth any longer. Together with one of their patients, Lucy Nelson, they decided to start a campaign raising money for pregnancy research projects. The campaign grew into Tommy’s charity.'
For this particular sponsored challenge, the team were in support of Love4Life with a target to raise £100 each to face their fears and take part in the abseil. There were a total of eleven team members who took part and so far, with sponsorships still increasing, the team have raised over £1,700.
Fishers Solicitors are continually supporting both of our charities with various in-house schemes like, a charity tuck shop, where the firm pays for treats in the tuck shop and employees buy them. All money spent in the tuck shop goes directly to our charities. As an office based on a business park, away from shops, this initiative ensures we are constantly spending money that supports our charities! Another in-house scheme we have is a lucky number draw, each number costs a £1 and if your ball is chosen at the end of the month you win half the money in the prize pot, the other half goes to charity. Alongside cake bakes and coffee mornings, supporting our charities is a key part of the working day at Fishers.
As Fishers have raised an excellent amount for Love4Life, our next challenge or event will be to raise money for Tommy's, so keep a look out for what we get up to next!
