Separating during the festive season
Christmas is typically a stressful time for all, and if there are problems in a marriage, Christmas can be the final reason why couples can choose to separate. Whilst divorce and separation can be unpleasant, it can also be handled in a way that makes the process much more comfortable too.
Divorcing during Christmas
At Fishers we’ve helped many people separate and January has always (historically) been a time of year where enquiries have flooded in for divorces. That hasn’t happened as much in recent years as divorce is now common over all seasons so we wanted to share some knowledge of divorce rates and how we can support you through a difficult time.
Official statistics show that there were 455 online divorce applications submitted to HM Courts & Tribunals Service between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day in 2019, with 13 of those completing the application on Christmas Day. And in 2019 there was a total of 107,599 divorces, 40,613 submitted by the husband and 66,986 by the wife. And 822 divorces by same sex couples.
receive advice from a divorce solicitor
We feel it is vital to get legal advice from a divorce solicitor before making any decisions regarding your divorce. That’s because you are most likely to need expert advice to ensure you get a fair settlement that protects your interests and those of your loved ones. Making sure those details are sorted by a professional in the first instance could mean that there are no surprises later down the line that could leave you worse off in the long run.
