Getting into the Christmas spirit

Christmas traditions make Christmas feel special and unique. From when people have their Christmas dinner to how people spend their Christmas mornings. At Fishers, we simply love Christmas. We love to plan Christmas lunches and get dressed up for our Christmas party. Here’s a look at how some of our team celebrate Christmas:

Emma Allen is one of our dispute resolution solicitors at Fishers.

What is your favourite festive tradition?

Christmas Eve boxes that always have our new pyjamas in, ready for Santa coming.

What’s the first thing you think about when it comes to Christmas?

Family and the smell of Christmas Trees.

What must you have in your Christmas dinner?

 Pigs in blankets.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

A surprise trip to New York.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

Time. It’s a cliché but very true.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Having all my family round with me and just being together.

How do you prepare for the festive period?

Christmas shopping in September to free up the time to enjoy Christmas. We always have our ‘family day’ to choose the Christmas tree.

Donna works as one of our commercial property solicitors at Fishers.

What is your favourite festive tradition?

Obscenely over the top properly made, homemade hot chocolates with my little sister (who works for a well-known chocolatier!) on Christmas Eve – and in bed before midnight so that Santa can come!

What’s the first thing you think about when it comes to Christmas?

Christmas Trees and twinkly lights.

What must you have in your Christmas dinner?

Pigs in blankets, and carrots with mushrooms.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

A matching red coat and hat when I was a little girl – I loved it and wished for it for months, and it came true!

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

A personalised number plate for my husband.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Family.

How do you prepare for the festive period?

Lots of shopping and eating. Also drinking red wine!

Jackie works as legal secretary in our family law team at Fishers.

What is your favourite festive tradition?

Putting the Christmas tree up and sitting with the sparkly twinkling lights watching a Christmas film with a large glass of Baileys.

What’s the first thing you think about when it comes to Christmas?

It has to be the Mariah Carey song “All I want for Christmas is you” along with some other good songs of the past. You just know there is at least six weeks to go before the big day when that song is played on the radio.

What must you have in your Christmas dinner?

The Marks and Spencer cheese in blankets and bread sauce.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

Going back to childhood (as don’t want to upset anyone) Tiny Tears – I still have her now.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

I’m not really sure as the people who received the gift might disagree.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Family traditions and obviously all the glitter and sparkle.

How do you prepare for the festive period?

Lots of lists of things to do with shopping, shopping and more shopping

What is your favourite festive tradition?

I like that Christmas Day is probably one of the only days that my mum doesn’t work on her computer. So, it’s nice to have her undivided attention for the day. I think spending quality time with family is always a treat at any time of the year.

What’s the first thing you think about when it comes to Christmas?

Since I’ve had my own house, it’s Boxing Day. We have it at mine and I always like to make sure it’s special with lots of nice food.

What must you have in your Christmas dinner?

Nice gravy.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

I shouldn’t say this as I wrote the questions, but that’s a really hard question.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

Another hard question, but when I bought my first house, I gave out keys.

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

I love Christmas food and once extended family and friends leave us for the day, it’s always nice to get out the good chocolates and have a cup of tea and relax.

How do you prepare for the festive period?

I spring (or winter) clean my house ready for my tree, decorations and having people over.

Carolyn works as one of our legal secretaries in our litigation team at Fishers.

What is your favourite festive tradition?

Making the Christmas cake.

What’s the first thing you think about when it comes to Christmas?

I wonder if it will snow or not. (It porbably won't).

What must you have in your Christmas dinner?

Pigs in blankets!

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

A trip to the Victoria Falls.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?

A vintage painting which I had to track down (it started an expensive auction habit though!).

What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?

Being able to have the family all together if only for a few days – an infrequent event these days.

How do you prepare for the festive period?

Very last minute, the tree is only up around 14 December as well (it’s real so can’t be doing with the needles). Every year I think I will be more organised but I never am!
